Lambretta Race-Tour Inlet manifold, large block, MB Shorty reed valve (block) manifold only, MB

MRB0770K

New from MB carrying on from our original 1980's reed block.

This new new cast alloy 4/6 petal inlet manifold was designed to fit all 200 inlet studded cylinders with oval exhaust ports.

It can be used with carb sizes from 18mm to 35mm.

Reed inlet manifolds can be fitted to improve fuel spit back and fuel economy, done correctly they they can improve and spread the power of the engine.

This is the price for

  • Machined die cast reed manifold, Large Block, MB
  • Reed gasket in Viton, MB
  • Long Screw and washer, MB

you will also require a combination of these parts also.

  • Reed block, various types see related products below
  • Reed rubber, various types see related products below

We can modify these reed manifolds to suit 150 type inlet stud spacings and Mugello inlet ports (extra charge)

Additional work is required for the MB inlet manifold to be fitted, see tabs below.

Features

  • Close fitting to frame
  • Variety of reed blocks can be used
  • Various inlet manifold rubbers to suit carbs from 18 - 35mm

Development History

  • Mark Broadhurst first developed one off reed valve manifolds for Lambretta cylinders in 1985
  • For many years MRB have produced 4, 6 and 8 petal external reed manifolds
  • In the 1990's cast Reed inlet manifolds lost favor over TS1 type cylinders, through over tuning and poorly designed piston ported cylinders the need has increased

Reasons to Buy

  • Improves if not cures spit back
  • Improves fuel economy
  • Spreads torque
  • Increases power

Tips

Requires some additional work for the manifold to fit.
  • Four fins above the inlet port needs removing and shaping for the manifold to fit
  • Ideally 1 or 2 boost ports (transfer ports) above the inlet port needs cutting into the cylinder
  • Ideally the inlet port needs opening, shaping and flowing to the inlet port
  • Ideally the piston needs modifying to give 360 degrees inlet timing or a reed piston fitted
  • Ideally the exhaust port needs lifting for a higher port timing duration

5 star 1. Jem H 29 Jun 2018

I bought my reed valve from Webster in the 90's and fitted it on a stage 5 cast barrel. I used mine for over 5 years (I still have it) . What isn't mentioned above is that the reed valve is more forgiving when it comes to carb setups. It means that jetting isn't so critical on road scoots. That's good news for us laymen. A reed valve on a tuned lambretta will save money and pay for itself over a period of time. Mine did. If you have a Lambretta that already has a large rubber mounted carb(30mm+) then a reed valve is a must even if you don't have any of the boost ports cut in piston or barrel .(You need make sure your carb is the rubber mounted version as the clamp verions of Dellorto types won't fit )Its a mod you can just buy and chuck on and you'll get positive results in fuel economy and power. Hardly any blowback so no wet floor boards any more. 5 star - Highly recommended.

Kirk on 25 Apr 2011 asked "I have a question about "Reed Inlet manifold (Reed block) 200 oval port cylinders, MRB" Do you know if a Yamaha rd350/400 or rz350 reed cage will fit your intake? Does the bolt hole pattern align? Also, in pursuit of better fuel economy rather than outright performance gains is it okay to only cut port windows in the piston or is it absolutely necessary to cut the boost ports in the cylinder as well? Thanks!"

MB Scooters Ltd replied: No these are designed for a slightly smaller MB 6 petal block which has different stud holes

Curly on 18 Feb 2011 asked "I have a question about "Reed Inlet manifold (Reed block) 200 oval port cylinders, MRB" in scootering jan 2011 it has these featured, do you do one for the small block lammy's 125,150,175.?"

MB Scooters Ltd replied: It's the same one but requires some mods which we can do no problem, it costs around £20 extra.
